Inauthentic Ahaadeeth Concerning Dhul Hijjah

In the name of Allaah, the Merciful and Beneficent.
All praise is due to Allaah, Lord of creation, and may the Salaat and Salaam be upon the noblest of prophets and messengers; our prophet Muhammad, his family, companions and all those who follow his guidance until the Day of Judgment.

The following are some inauthentic Ahaadeeth Regarding the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, this article will be updated regularly by the permission of Allah. If you come accross an inauthentic Hadeeth that is not on this list, please send it to us for verification and it will be added to the list insha-Allaah.



i)  "Whoever prays forty prayers in my Masjid [al Masjid an Nabawee] without missing one prayer, it would be written that he would have safety from the hellfire, salvation from punishment and be cured of hypocrisy."

ii)  "Whoever performs Hajj and does not visit me has shunned me."
[Fabricated, refer to: Tarteeb al Mawdoo’aat by adh Dhahabee: 1/600, Tanzeeh ash Sharee’ah by al Kinaanee: 2/172, Al Fawaa-id al Majmoo’ah fil Ahadeeth al Mawdoo’ah by al Shawkaanee: 1/326 and Silsilat al ahadeeth ad Da’eefah wal Mawdoo’ah by al Albaanee: 1/119]]
Al Allaamah, al Muhaddith, ar Rabaanee, ‘Abdul Muhisn al ‘Abbaad stated: '...and other Ahaadeeth about visiting the grave of the Messenger - صلى الله عليه وسلم - especially those stating that whoever visits him will have this and whoever doesn’t visit him will have that; all of these Ahaadeeth have not been authentically reported on the authority of the Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم. Rather they are either false, fabricated or extremely weak as the people of knowledge have clarified.’ [Sharh Sunan Abu Dawood: 10/218]

iii)  "Isma’eel’s grave is in the Hijir."

PART 1


1. "There are no days more beloved to Allaah that He is worshiped in except the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, fasting one of its days is equal to fasting a whole year, and staying up at night in prayer is equal to staying up on Laylatul Qadr."

[Inauthentic: Abu 'Eesa [at Tirmidhee] stated: 'This Hadeeth is Ghareeb…', refer to: Da'eef Sunan at Tirmidhee, Da'eef Sunan ibn Maajah # 377, al Miskhkaat # 1471, Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer # 5161, Da'eef at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 123 and as Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 5142. This Hadeeth has different wordings.]



2. "Whoever fasts the first ten [days of Dhul Hijjah] would receive [the reward of] a month's fast for every day, [the reward of] a year for fasting on the day of Tarwiyah and [the reward of] two years for fasting on the day of 'Arafah."

[Fabricated: Ibn Hibbaan stated: 'It is so clear that this is a lie that it does not even need to be labeled.' Al Mawdoo'aat by Ibn al Jawzee: 2/112, al Fawaa-id al Majmoo'ah # 30 and Tanzeeh ash Sharee'ah al Marfoo'ah: 2/187]



3. "Fasting the first day of the first ten days [of Dhul Hijjah] is equal to a hundred years, the second day is equal to two hundred years, fasting on the day of al Tarwiyah is equal to a thousand years and fasting on the day of 'Arafah is equal to two thousand years."

4. "Fasting on the day of al Tarwiyah expiates a whole year and fasting on the day of 'Arafah expiates two years."

5. "The Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم - used to fast nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of 'Arafah, three days of every month, the first Monday of every month and Thursdays and Mondays after the second Jum'ah."

[Inauthentic, Az Zayla'ee stated: 'It is inauthentic.' refer to Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer # 4570 ]



6. "There are no days that acts of worship are more beloved to Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, except these days [i.e. the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah] so practice a lot of Tahleel, Takbeer and remembrance of Allaah. Actions in this month are multiplied by seven hundred."

7. "Allah has chosen the time, and the most beloved time to Allaah the Glorified is Dhul Hijjah, and the most beloved of Dhul Hijjah are the first ten."

[Declared inauthentic by ibn 'Adee and ibn Rajab in Lataa-if al Ma'aarif P.467]



8. On the authority of Al Awzaa'ee - may Allaah have mercy upon him: "It has reached me that actions of worship in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are equal to battling in the cause of Allaah. Its days are spent in fasting and its nights are spent in prayer, except a man who has been specified with Shahaadah." A man from Banee Makhzoom narrated this to me on the authority of the Prophet - صلى الله عليه وسلم.

9. "Four things the Prophet - صلى الله عليه وسلم - never used to leave off; fasting on 'Aashooraa, the ten days of Dhul Hijjah, three days of every month and two Rak'aat before sunrise."

[Inauthentic: Irwaa al Ghaleel 4/111 and Saheeh wa Da'eef Sunan an Nasaa-ee # 2416



10- "The Messenger - صلى الله عليه وسلم - used to say on the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah; 'For every day is [the reward of] a thousand days, and the day of 'Arafah is worth ten of those days in reward.'"

11- "Their was a young man who used to engage in singing, and if the moon of Dhul Hijjah is sighted he fast. The Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم - sent for him and asked; 'What makes you fast these days?' He responded; 'They are the days of the Mashaa'ir and Hajj, I hope that Allaah the Mighty and Majestic would include me in their Du'aa.' He said: 'Every day you fast would be equal to freeing one hundred slaves…" to the end of the narration.

12- "On the first day of Dhul Hijjah, Allaah forgave Adam, so whoever fasts this day would have all His sins forgiven by Allaah.
On the second day, Allaah responded to Yusuf, so whoever fasts this day, it is as if he worshiped Allaah for a whole year without ever disobeying him.
On the third day, Allaah responded to Zakariyyah's suplication, so whoever fasts on this day would have is supplication responded to…"

And likewise the Hadeeth continues until the tenth day.

13- "Whoever fasts on the 28th of Dhul Hijjah would have 60 months of fasting written for him…"

14- "If the Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم - missed some days in Ramadaan, he would make them up on Dhul Hijjah."

PART 2



1. "Hajj is the Jihaad for every weak person, and the Jihaad of the woman is being a good wife."

[Inauthentic: As silsilah ad Da’eefah: # 3519, Kashf al Khafaa: 1/420. Translator’s note: The narration restricting itself to " Hajj is the Jihaad for every weak person" has been declared Hasan and Hasan li Ghayrihi by al Albaanee; refer to: Saheeh at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 1102 and Saheeh wa Da’eef al Jaami’ as Sagheer wa Ziyaadatahu: # 5482]



2. "Whoever has the financial ability as well as transportation that would enable him to reach the House of Allaah but does not perform Hajj, then there is nothing else for him except to die as a Jew or Christian."

[Inauthentic on the authority of the Messenger, it is from the saying of ‘Umar ibn al Khataab may Allaah be pleased with him. 5. "Isma’eel’s grave is in the Hijir."

[Inauthentic, refer to: Da’eef al Jaami’ # 1907, al Silsilah ad Da’eefah # 5794, Tadhkirat al Mawdoo’aat: P. 220]



6. "Perform Hajj before a day comes when you will not be able to…"

[Fabricated: Al Ghaamiz: P. 97, Da’eef al Jaami’ #2695, as Silsilah ad Da’eefah # 543 where it was declared 'Baatil', Al ‘Ilal an Mutanaahiyyah fil Ahaadeeth al Waahiyyah by ibn al Jawzee # 962, al Maqaasid al Hasanah by as Sakhawee # 391 and others…the Hadeeth finishes off with a number of wordings.]



7. "Whoever departs from al Masjid al Aqsaa with the intention of ‘Umrah will have all his previous deeds forgiven."

[Inauthentic: Al Silsilah ad Da’eefah # 211, Da’eef at Targheeb wat Tarheeb: 1/181]



8. "If a man performs Hajj with other than his own wealth saying 'Labayk Allaahummah Labayk'. Allaah would say 'Laa Labayk wa Laa Sa’dayk'."

[Inauthentic: Kashf al Khafaa: 1/89, al Maqaasid al Hasanah by as Sakhawee # 1/746, Saheeh wa Da’eef al Jaami’ as Sagheer: #1473]



9. "The black stone is the right hand of Allaah upon the Earth…"

[Fabricated, refer to: Al ‘Ilal an Mutanaahiyyah fil Ahaadeeth al Waahiyyah by ibn al Jawzee # 944, Tareekh Baghdaad by al Khateeb: 6/328, al Silsilah ad Da’eefah # 223]



10. "The sign that differentiates us from the hypocrites is that they do not drink from Zamzam."

[Irwaa al Ghaleel by al Albaanee: 4/328, Da’eef ibn Maajah # 665]


11. Indeed the angels shake the hands of the riders to Hajj and hug those who walk.

[Fabricated, refer to: Shu'ab al Eemaan by al Bayhaqee: 2/74, Fayd al Qadeer by al Manaawee, Silsilat al Ahaadeeth ad Da'eefah wal Mawdoo'ah # 5961 and Saheeh wa Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer: #4599.]



12. It is from the perfection of Hajj to be deprived of your families company.

[Inauthentic, refer to: Saheeh wa Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer: #4831.]



13. Performing Hajj and 'Umrah frequently prevents dependency [upon others].

[Fabricated. Refer to: As Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 477 where the author states: '…and the majority of Imaams have declared it inauthentic.']



14. The Hujjaaj and the 'Ummaar (those performing 'Umrah) are the delegation of Allah the Mighty and Majestic; he gives them what they ask for and replaces for them what they spend, for every Dirham a thousand, thousand Dirhams.

The following wordings are authentic however:



"The Hujjaaj and the 'Ummaar (those performing 'Umrah) are Allaah's delegation, if they call upon Him, He would respond, and if they seek forgiveness, He would forgive them."

[Hasan li Ghayrihi, refer to Saheeh at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 1107]



15. Perform Hajj, for indeed Hajj cleanses sins as water cleanses dirt.

[Fabricated, refer to: Majma' az Zawaa-id, As Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 542, Saheed wa Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer # 6442 and Da'eef at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 688]


16. Sacrificing is the Sunnah of your father Ibraheem. They asked; what is the reward in it for us? He responded: With every hair is a good deed. They asked; what about the fur? He said: with every piece of hair from it is a good deed.

17. Honor your sacrificial animals for indeed they are your footsteps upon the Siraat.

[Extremely weak, refer to: Al Shadharah fil Ahaadeeth al Mushtaharah by ibn Tuloon: 1/96, al Mushtahar min al Hadeeth al Mawdoo' by al Jabaree: 1/197, Kashf al Khafaa by al 'Ajloonee # 1794, al Maqaasid al Hasanah by as Sakhaawee: 1/114 and Silsilat al Ahaadeeth ad Da'eefah: 1/173]



18. One battle by a person who has performed Hajj is better than forty battles.

19. Hajj is Jihaad and 'Umrah is voluntary.

[Inauthentic , refer to at Talkhees by ibn Hajar and as Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 200]



20. 'Umrah to Hajj is like the head to the body, and like Zakaat to fasting.

[Extremely weak, refer to as Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 3953]



21. "Hajj is before marriage."

[Fabricated, refer to: Saheeh wa Da'eef al Jaami' as Sagheer # 6509]



22. "…There is not a servant of Allaah who leaves off Hajj for a worldly affair/need except that he would expire before he performs the obligatory Hajj..."

[Inauthentic, refer to: Da'eef at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 698 and as Silsilah ad Da'eefah.]



23. "There are six actions that whoever practices one of them, he would come on the Day of Resurrection with each of them saying 'He used to act upon me'. They are; the prayer, Zakaat, Hajj, fasting, delivering the Amaanah (something entrusted upon you) and enjoining the ties of the womb."

24. "The Messenger prohibited performing 'Umrah before Hajj."

[Inauthentic, refer to: As Silsilah ad Da'eefah: #4723 and Saheeh wa Da'eef al Jaam' as Sagheer # 14213]



25. It was narrated on the authority of 'Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – that he took permission from the Messenger – صلى الله عليه وسلم – to perform 'Umrah, so he permitted him and said:

'My brother, include us in you Du'aa and do not forget us.'

26. "Greeting the House of Allaah is practiced by performing Tawaaf."

[Fabricated refer to: Al Asraar al Marfoo'ah fil Akhbaar al Mawdoo'ah 1/156, Al Lu-lu al Mawsoo' feema la Asla lahu aw bi Aslihi Mawdoo' # 143, al Jidd al Hatheeth fee Bayaan ma laysa min Hadeeth # 101, al Masnoo' fee Ma'rifat al Hadeeth al Mawdoo' # 88, an Nukhbat al Bahiyyah fee al Ahaadeeth al Makdhoobah 'ala Khayr al Bareeyah # 80 and as Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 1012]



27. "Indeed Allaah enters three types of people into Jannah with one Hajj; the deceased person, the person performing Hajj on his behalf and the person who advised that Hajj is made on his behalf."

28. "Hajj and 'Umrah are both obligations and it there is no harm which one you start with."

[Inauthentic, refer to: Bayaan al Wahm wal Ihaam fee Kitaab al Ahkaam by al Faasee # 1228 where he stated: 'What is correct is that it is the statement of Zayd ibn Thaabit', and as Silsilah ad Da'eefah # 3520]



29. "On the day of 'Arafah, Allaah the Mighty and Majestic boasts it to the Angels saying; 'Look at my servants, they came to Me shabby, dusty and unshaded from the heat of the sun from every mountain path, I hold you as witnesses that I have forgiven them'. The angles say; 'But such and such a person who is a sinner is with them.' Allaah would respond; 'I have forgiven them.' The Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم – said; 'There is not a day when more people are freed from the Hellfire than 'Arafah.'

[Translator's note: The authentic Hadeeth on the authority of ‘Aa-ishah – may Allaah be pleased with her: "There is not a day that more of Allaah’s servants are freed from the Hellfire than ‘Arafah. Indeed He descends and boasts them to the angels and says: ‘What is it that they want?’ [Collected my Muslim an Nasaa-ee, ibn Majah and authenticated by al Albaane in Saheeh at Targheeb wat Tarheeb # 1154]

30- "Indeed I have forgiven everything for them except the oppression against others, for indeed I will take for the oppressed from them." He [the Messenger] said; 'My Lord, if you wish you may give the oppressed Jannah and forgive the oppressor.' He did not respond on the night of 'Arafah, but in the morning in Muzdalifah, he repeated the request and was granted it. So the Messenger - صلى الله عليه وسلم - smiled. Abu Bakr and 'Umar – may Allaah be pleased with them – said: 'This is a time that you never smiled in, so what is it that makes you smile now?'…" The Hadeeth.
